Myanmar approves death penalty for forced scam labour, life term for crypto fraud

Myanmar has approved the death penalty for those who force people into scam call centre labour, and life imprisonment for cryptocurrency fraud. According to UN estimates, scam operations across the region generated up to $114 billion in losses in 2025. The new laws aim to crack down on a practice that has ensnared thousands of human trafficking victims across Southeast Asia.
