Twins buried in Ephesus latrine had rare genetic mutation, study finds

Archaeologists from the Austrian Academy of Sciences found a Byzantine-era stone cist grave (8th–9th century) hidden in a former latrine channel attached to an ancient odeon near the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus. Inside were two premature infant skeletons, buried side by side, suggesting they were twins. DNA analysis revealed a rare genetic mutation shared by both children.
