ZUS grants care allowance to seniors but thousands receive nothing due to benefit cap

Seniors over 75 are automatically entitled to a care supplement alongside their pension in Poland. However, those also receiving a widow's pension hit a statutory benefit-combination cap, meaning ZUS either reduces or entirely withholds the supplement. The Ombudsman has described the payment as "illusory" for thousands of eligible seniors.
