Jodrell Bank radio telescope tracks space junk in geostationary orbit — a first

The international Long Baseline Multistatic Radar (LBMR) project has for the first time used a radio telescope — including the famous Jodrell Bank instrument in the UK — to track space debris in geostationary orbit. Conventional debris-monitoring methods could not reach that altitude. The breakthrough opens new possibilities for managing the growing volume of orbital waste, an increasingly serious global problem.
