US launches six-month review of its military force posture in Europe

The United States officially launched a six-month review of its military force posture in Europe on Tuesday, which will determine troop numbers and assets on the continent. Deputy Defence Secretary Elbridge Colby said the review is designed to accelerate Europe's assumption of primary responsibility for its own conventional defence within NATO. Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth first announced the review in June at a NATO ministerial; the US has already withdrawn some troops from Germany and reduced contributions to alliance force-planning.
