Near-death avalanche survivor discovers Wales' first Jurassic sea dragon fossil
Matthew Myerscough, a 40-year-old civil engineer, discovered a fossilised bone of an early plesiosaur — a marine reptile from the early Jurassic period — on Lavernock beach near Penarth in south Wales, the first such find in Wales. Myerscough began fossil hunting after surviving an avalanche, and has since discovered thousands of fossils on British beaches. He has detailed his discoveries in a new book.
