Japanese scientists discover why muscle regeneration fails with age

A research team at Kyushu University led by Prof. Ryuichi Tatsumi has investigated why the natural repair mechanisms of skeletal muscles stop working with age. The study centres on hepatocyte growth factor (HGF), a protein that drives cell regeneration across mammalian tissues. The findings shed light on the build-up of fat and the loss of fast-twitch fibres responsible for muscular strength and power.
