PCOS renamed PMOS, raising hopes for better diagnosis among Black and Latina women

A condition previously known as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) has been renamed polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), raising hopes for greater awareness and better diagnosis. Bontle Moka-Moliki, a 32-year-old Atlanta resident diagnosed with the condition in 2024, says she lives with constant daily pain. Advocates hope the new name will particularly help Black and Latina women, who are disproportionately underdiagnosed.
