Gironde wildfire burns 42,000 hectares as France braces for more heat

A wildfire in the Gironde department of southwestern France, burning since July 22, has scorched 42,000 hectares and was declared stabilised on Tuesday morning, according to the local prefecture. Authorities said the previous night had been calm, but warned that weather conditions this week could again favour the fire's spread. France is simultaneously bracing for a new heatwave.
