"Wham! 10 Days in China" review: pop meets politics in a landmark 1985 tour

A new documentary revisits Wham!'s groundbreaking 1985 tour of mainland China, when George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley became the first western pop act to perform there. Manager Simon Napier-Bell engineered the trip as a strategy to break the US market. The film is a re-edit of footage originally shot by director Lindsay Anderson, who was subsequently fired from the project. It weaves together pop culture, Cold War politics and film history.
