Earth's orbital shifts dried out the Middle East and toppled Bronze Age empires

A study by Katherine Power's team at Stockholm University, published in "Science Advances", concludes that gradual shifts in Earth's orbital parameters reduced summer solar radiation in the Northern Hemisphere, weakening monsoon systems and causing prolonged drought. This climate mechanism is now identified as the key driver behind the collapse of the Hittite Empire and the Mycenaean and Minoan civilisations between roughly 1300 and 900 BC.
