Origin Energy knew of 900,000-customer data breach three weeks before going public

Australian energy giant Origin Energy has admitted it was warned of a hack that exposed the personal data of 900,000 current and former customers three weeks before it made the breach public. CEO Frank Calabria apologised and urged customers to watch for suspicious activity due to heightened scam risk. The company said a "significant" proportion of those affected are former customers, with notifications to be sent in the coming days.
