Chilean colonel jailed over 50 years after murdering singer Víctor Jara

Chilean police arrested a retired military colonel for the killing of singer-songwriter and activist Víctor Jara, more than 50 years after the crime. Jara was killed shortly after Augusto Pinochet's coup and became an enduring symbol of resistance to dictatorship. The arrest came after decades of efforts by Jara's family and human rights organisations to bring those responsible to justice.
