US pilots could take command of Australia's MQ-28 Ghost Bat combat drones

US Air Force General Kevin Schneider, head of Pacific Air Forces, confirmed that American personnel are "threaded in tight" with Australia's MQ-28 Ghost Bat uncrewed aircraft programme. The drone participated in Exercise Valiant Shield 2026, and lessons learned are feeding into the US Air Force's plans for its Collaborative Combat Aircraft drone fleet. The deep US-Australian integration raises the prospect of American pilots commanding Australian MQ-28s in future operations.
