Homo antecessor cannibalized adults and children in Spanish cave 850,000 years ago

New research on fossils from Gran Dolina cave in Spain's Sierra de Atapuerca complex reveals that Homo antecessor practiced cannibalism on both adults and children around 850,000 years ago. Among the 24 newly found bones and teeth — including skull fragments, spine and limb bones — cut marks strongly suggest the flesh was consumed. Previous discoveries at the site had pointed mainly to child victims, making the adult remains a significant new finding.
