HIV Funding Drops 18% — UN Warns of Epidemic Resurgence
Global government funding to combat HIV fell by more than $1.5 billion to $7.3 billion in 2025, an 18% decline and the lowest level in nearly two decades, according to a new UNAIDS report. Prevention programmes are especially at risk in sub-Saharan Africa, where donor assistance previously covered 83% of costs. The UN agency warns that high debt burdens and backsliding on human rights and gender equality further threaten progress against the epidemic.
