Scottish island monks excommunicated for defying papal authority

The Diocese of Aberdeen has excommunicated monks from the Sons of the Most Holy Redeemer on the Scottish island of Papa Stronsay for undermining papal authority and unlawfully receiving episcopal ordinations. The group's leader was excommunicated and banned from celebrating the sacraments.
