Experts Warn Starship Heat Shield Tech Is a Dead End for Rapid Reuse
Despite a successful 13th Starship test flight by SpaceX, experts warn that the heat shield system — roughly 18,000 ceramic tiles protecting the vehicle's underbelly during re-entry — may be a fundamental obstacle to frequent, low-cost flights. As soon as its next flight, Starship could reach orbit and deliver satellites, but the heat shield issue remains unresolved. Some specialists say SpaceX's current approach is likely a dead end for rapid reuse.
