Mercedes expands in Hungary where costs are 70% below Germany as home workers face cuts

Mercedes-Benz is rapidly expanding its factory in Kecskemét, Hungary, where production costs are 70% lower than in Germany — workers earn around $18 an hour compared to $57 in Germany. The Hungarian plant is gaining production of the C-Class and G-Class models while German workers are being asked to work longer hours without extra pay. Rival Porsche is taking the opposite approach, betting that the "Made in Germany" label still commands a premium with buyers.
