July 27, 1962: First cosmonaut zero-gravity training flight takes off

On July 27, 1962, cosmonauts Andriyan Nikolayev and Pavel Popovich completed the first zero-gravity training flight aboard a modified Tupolev Tu-104 Soviet jetliner. By flying in a parabolic arc, they experienced between 6 and 25 seconds of weightlessness per maneuver. The flight was designed to prepare them for their upcoming orbital missions Vostok 3 and Vostok 4.
