Next-gen Toyota Corolla leaked with hybrid, plug-in and BEV options

The next Corolla will offer hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and BEV options.

Slim, tapered side windows will set this compact apart from past versions.

Like the concept, the production model should feature an all-new interior.

The current Toyota Corolla has been on sale since 2018, and while it’s still a solid performer, its age is starting to show, and a replacement is on the horizon. A fresh teaser from inside Toyota itself suggests the next-generation car will land looking a lot like the concept the company pulled the covers off late last year.

A recent documentary series released by Toyota and NHK in Japan peels back the curtain, providing an insight into its management and what goes into the creation of new models. During the film, a series of Toyota staffers are seen sitting in a future vehicle presentation, and the all-new Corolla appears on screen.

Sadly for us, the completed design remains hidden from view as the cars pictured have been blurred out. With that being said, we got a decent preview of the car’s long, sleek sedan shape, looking very similar to the Corolla concept from October.

Like that show car, the production-spec Corolla will have a sharp nose, but it may not be the car’s most dramatic feature. Instead, it could be the sides where we can see the base of the front side windows is not positioned horizontally, but instead runs diagonally down the door panel, as seen in the concept.

Concepts Meets Reality

Similarly, the door skins may carry over too, as the production car shows the same lines running along its lower flanks and finishing in a triangle. The roofline at the back looks close to the concept as well, stretching far rearward more like a crossover than a traditional three-box sedan.

Although Toyota isn’t yet ready to show the new Corolla to the world, it has confirmed it’ll be sold with a host of different powertrain options, including hybrids, plug-in hybrids and even a BEV. It’ll also likely spawn a new generation GR model.

Whether the all-new Corolla will also be sold as a hatchback remains unknown, or whether the sedan previewed in this teaser, and hinted at by the concept, will be the only body style on offer.
