Rooey II: the giant kangaroo sculpture on Australia's South-West border

Standing beside the Border Village Roadhouse on the edge of the Nullarbor Plain is Rooey II, a large kangaroo sculpture holding a tub of Vegemite and part of Australia's unofficial "Big Things" tradition. Designer Bill Metherel created it in 1987 when roadhouse owners wanted to attract passing tourists during the America's Cup in Perth. The name Rooey II arose because "Rooey" was already the nickname of one of the roadhouse owners.
