Timing of drought matters more than its duration, study finds

New research suggests that the timing of a drought — when it strikes during a plant's growth cycle — may be more important than how long it lasts. A drought occurring at a critical growth stage can cause more severe damage to ecosystems and agriculture than a longer drought at a less vulnerable period.
