D-Day beaches in Normandy added to UNESCO World Heritage List

UNESCO on Sunday inscribed the Allied D-Day landing beaches in Normandy on its World Heritage List, completing a project that began nearly two decades ago. The site stretches over 80 kilometres of France's northwestern coast, where Allied forces landed on June 6, 1944, in a decisive battle to liberate Europe from Nazism. The listing formally recognises the beaches' outstanding universal historical significance.
