Wildfires in Gironde force evacuation of over 220,000 people in southwestern France

Raging wildfires in the Gironde department of southwestern France have forced more than 220,000 people to evacuate their homes. Thousands of evacuees are sheltering in emergency facilities as firefighters battle to bring the blaze under control, with no timeline given for when residents may be able to return.
