Inherited genetics determines whether DNA damage leads to cancer

A controlled mouse study has provided direct evidence that inherited genetics can steer how cancer begins and evolves following DNA damage. The findings could eventually help doctors better predict individual cancer risk and tailor screening and treatment strategies accordingly.
