Jupiter's magnetic field may explain why it has several large moons unlike Saturn
Scientists suggest that young Jupiter's powerful magnetic field may have created a protective zone allowing several large moons to survive. Saturn lacked this same protection, which could explain why Titan stands almost alone as a large moon in its system. The findings offer a new perspective on the differing moon systems of the two gas giants.
