Massive wildfires in France and Spain generate their own thunderstorms

A major wildfire spreading across France's Bordeaux region has extended into western Madrid, Spain. The blaze is so intense it has generated a pyrocumulonimbus — a rare fire cloud capable of producing its own thunderstorms. Such phenomena are among the most dangerous atmospheric events associated with large wildfires.
