Gironde wildfires: firefighters stabilise front but blaze still not contained

Firefighters in France's Gironde department, roughly 15 kilometres from the Bordeaux metropolitan area, entered their fifth night battling extensive wildfires. While crews managed to stabilise the situation, the blaze remains uncontained and has already burned hundreds of thousands of hectares. Emergency services said they would continue firefighting operations.
