Taiwan makes world's best chips but its military AI is far behind

Taiwan is the world's leading producer of advanced semiconductors, yet its own military is only in the early stages of adopting AI-enabled systems — a critical mismatch given Beijing's rapid militarisation of artificial intelligence. China's focus on "reuniting" with Taiwan means the Taiwanese military could be the first force to face the People's Liberation Army's emerging AI-driven capabilities in a real conflict. Should the US and allied forces intervene, the coalition would need shared, interoperable AI military systems that Taiwan currently cannot provide.
