Australia's national emergency alert test — patchy results

Australia conducted a nationwide emergency alert test at around 2pm AEST, sending a loud siren and a "TEST MESSAGE – NO ACTION IS REQUIRED" pop-up to most phones, smartwatches and tablets. The experience was anti-climactic for many — some heard nothing at all. The federal government declared the test a success while acknowledging no alert system achieves 100% coverage.
