EVs hit nearly 25% of Australian new car sales in first half of 2026
Australians bought 103,855 battery electric vehicles in the first six months of 2026 — more than in all of 2025, when 103,269 were sold, according to VFacts and the Electric Vehicle Council. EVs now account for nearly a quarter of new car sales nationally. The surge is partly driven by uncertainty over petrol prices amid the ongoing Middle East crisis.
