EV battery costs fell 35% since 2020, yet median asking price went up

A new German study finds that global battery costs have fallen roughly 35% in real terms since 2020, and equivalent electric vehicle models have dropped about 18% in price over five years. Despite this, the median advertised EV price has actually risen, as manufacturers have channelled savings into higher-spec models rather than lower sticker prices. Combustion-engine cars moved in the opposite direction, rising about 2% over the same period.
