Russia's Baltic shadow fleet earns billions while dodging Western sanctions
Russia is successfully circumventing Western sanctions using a shadow fleet of ageing tankers in the Baltic Sea, according to Germany's Die Zeit newspaper. The vessels, often uninsured, transport Russian oil and generate huge profits for Moscow. European countries face serious difficulties in stopping and inspecting them due to complex ownership structures and third-country flags of convenience.
