Doctors warn that the greatest tick-related danger in summer comes not from adult ticks but from nymphs — microscopic developmental stages that are nearly invisible to the naked eye. Because of their tiny size, nymphs are easily overlooked during skin checks after outdoor activities. They carry the same risk of transmitting Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses as adult ticks.
