Gibraltar joins Schengen zone — passport checks at Spanish border scrapped

Passport checks at the Spain-Gibraltar border were abolished a week ago as Gibraltar joined the Schengen Area after over a century of separation. Only travellers from outside Schengen or non-visa-exempt countries will now need an entry visa. The Gibraltar government has assured that the change will not make it easier for people refused UK visas to enter Europe.
