Tate Brothers Face Rape and Trafficking Charges — Why Are They So Popular Online?
Andrew and Tristan Tate are being prosecuted in two countries — Romania and the UK — for rape, human trafficking and tax evasion. Despite the charges and their extreme, sexist public statements, they have amassed a massive online following, particularly among young men. Sociologist Elżbieta Korolczuk points to social-media algorithms, a male identity crisis and political agendas of certain parties as key drivers. "It is very hard to escape this black hole," she warns.
