How to legally claim a deceased relative's bank savings in Poland
In Poland, surviving family members can check which banks held a deceased relative's savings through the Centralna Informacja o Rachunkach, a free service available via banks. If the deceased had set up a "payable on death" instruction (dyspozycja wkładem na wypadek śmierci) on their account, the named person can collect the funds without going through probate. The amount payable under this mechanism is capped by law.
