The average ZUS sub-account holds tens of thousands of złoty, and Open Pension Fund (OFE) balances can be considerably higher. After a policyholder's death, the funds do not automatically disappear, but neither ZUS nor OFE actively seeks out heirs. If no claim is submitted by the family, the state keeps the money.
