Global electricity demand to rise 3.6% this year, driven by data centres and EVs

Global electricity consumption will grow by 3.6% this year and 3.8% next year, according to the International Energy Agency. The main drivers are industrial expansion, booming data centres, the growing electric vehicle fleet and rising demand for cooling due to climate change. The increase is happening despite persistently high energy prices worldwide.
