NASA monitors Pacific submarine eruption that could birth a new island

A submarine volcanic eruption north of Papua New Guinea has been ongoing since May, in one of the world's least-studied ocean areas. Magma has risen surprisingly close to the surface, and NASA scientists say a new island could emerge from the ocean. This would be a rare real-time observation of land being born.
