The Transfiguration: a feast shared by Catholics, Protestants and Orthodox Christians
The Transfiguration commemorates the Gospel event in which Jesus took the apostles Peter, James and John up a mountain in Galilee and revealed his divine glory to them. Catholics and Protestants mark the feast on 6 August, while the Orthodox Church celebrates it on 19 August. The feast is also linked historically to the defence of Belgrade and papal gratitude.
