UK hypersonic missile demonstrator to fly — without a warhead

The UK Ministry of Defence has awarded a contract to develop a hypersonic missile surrogate capable of flying at speeds above Mach 5. The vehicle is intended solely for testing air-defence systems and will carry no warhead. The contract was awarded through the National Armaments Director group.
