JWST may be missing water hidden deep inside mini-Neptune exoplanets
New research suggests NASA's James Webb Space Telescope may be failing to detect water hidden deep within sub-Neptune exoplanets — the most common type of planet in the Milky Way, with over 3,300 confirmed so far. The thick, hazy atmospheres of these worlds make telescopic observation extremely difficult even for JWST. The absence of a sub-Neptune analogue in our own solar system further hampers scientists' understanding of this planet class.
