Scientists develop under-skin power outlet for medical implants, achieving 16 Mbps data transfers

Scientists at UC Irvine have created an Implantable Bioelectronic Outlet (IBO) that sits under the skin and is accessed via a simple needle insertion. The device allows charging and data retrieval for long-term medical implants, achieving data transfer speeds of 16 Mbps without permanently exposing electrical connections to infection risk. It is designed to overcome the limitations of both exposed sockets and bulky wireless charging antennas.
