SuperAgers have remarkable memories, but their genes don't explain why
Scientists expected so-called SuperAgers — older adults who retain exceptionally sharp memories — to carry fewer Alzheimer's-related genetic risk factors, but their DNA looked much like that of typical elderly people. Researchers now believe their extraordinary memory may stem from still-unknown protective factors involving the brain, body, lifestyle and environment. The findings suggest genetics alone cannot explain cognitive resilience in old age.
