Paramount halts Warner Bros. Discovery takeover until 2027 amid lawsuits
Paramount has announced it is abandoning its plan to finalise the acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by 30 September 2026, pushing the deadline to 1 June 2027 or whenever a court verdict is reached. The move is driven by lawsuits filed by a coalition of 12 state attorneys general and the Writers Guild of America opposing the deal. The decision also carries political weight, as President Trump had been counting on Paramount-Skydance gaining control of WBD, given his friendship with the Ellison family who own Paramount-Skydance.
