Guterres visits Damascus for first time since 2009, urges global support for Syria

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has visited Damascus, becoming the first UN chief to set foot in Syria since his predecessor Ban Ki-moon did so in 2009 — two years before the outbreak of the civil war. Guterres called on the international community to support Syria during the visit.
