Christopher Nolan's upcoming film adaptation is reigniting interest in the Odyssey and the Iliad — the oldest works most frequently revisited in literature and cinema. Scholars have long questioned whether Homer actually existed as a single historical figure, suggesting he may have been a collective identity for many ancient bards rather than one person. The image of Homer held by millions is almost certainly a myth.
