Zakopane in August: Blooming Fireweed and Perfect Long-Weekend Hiking

August is an ideal time to visit Zakopane, with the Tatra Mountains blanketed in blooming fireweed and the town well-connected by trains and buses from across Poland. The resort, dubbed the "navel of the world" by painter Rafał Malczewski, once attracted luminaries such as Henryk Sienkiewicz and Wisława Szymborska. It makes an excellent base for hiking during Poland's long August weekend or a belated summer holiday.
